Top 5 Music Movies

By this, I don't mean musicals, or operas, or things like that. I mean, movies about people, playing music and cool shit like that. So here we go:

5. "That Thing You Do!"
This is Tom Hanks' first directing job. It stars Tom Everett Scott as Guy Patterson. The drummer of the '60s band, The Wonders. Their hit single "That Thing You Do" was originally supposed to be a slow song. but one night, Guy Patterson fills in as the drummer and starts going double-time. The song then becomes a lot catchier and eventually The Wonders get signed on to a contract by a Mr. White, played by Tom Hanks. The band quickly falls apart and Guy falls for the ex-girlfriend of a band-mate, played by Liv Tyler.
This movie shows just how easily it can be to turn from "promising talent" to a "one-hit wonder." The only beef I had with this is at the end when Guy Patterson kisses the girl played by Liv Tyler, it's kind of out of the blue. There wasn't a lot in the story line that really lead up to that moment. But all in all, good movie.

4. "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story"
Although it's a parody of Walk The Line, I find this to be a great movie. It stars John C. Reilly as Dewey Cox. At a young age, Dewey accidentally cuts his brother Nate in half with a machete (it happens). His father, Pa Cox, always hated Dewey from that point on.Nate was a promising pianist and Pa always favored him over Dewey. Before dying, Nate tells Dewey that he has to be double-great for the both of them. Despite the ridiculous jokes that are so stupid you HAVE to laugh at them, and the unnecessary comedic nudity, there is a beautiful story behind this. Dewey goes through many phases, a couple of marriages and a pretty heavy drug addiction. The goal of his during the movie is to create his masterpiece. He finally does this at the end when he is i don't even remember how old. He passes away just moments after completing the song. Which, if you think about it, is pretty symbolic.

3. "Wayne's World 2"
ALRIGHT! PARTY TIME! I think just about everyone is familiar with Wayne's World. Mike Myers. Dana Carvey.
Wayne begins having weird dreams at night. They consist of the late rockstar Jim Morrison of The Doors and a weird naked Indian. Jim tells Wayne that he must put on a concert in Aurora Illinois. As Wayne attempts to do this, he struggles to win his girlfriend Cassandra back from her producer Bobby (Christopher Walken). Meanwhile, Garth is having girl troubles of his own when he cashes in his V-Card with a psychotic wench who tries to get him to murder her husband. Wayne's World was great, but this sequel is sooooo much better. I can't be friends with anyone who doesn't enjoy it.

2. "Crossroads"
Ralph Macchio plays Eugene "Lightning Boy" Martone, a brilliant guitarist that was enrolled in Julliard at 17 years old. He leaves school and everything he owns to help and old blues man Willie Brown break out of his nursing home and get back to his home state of Mississippi. In exchange, Willie tells Lightning boy he will teach him a lost song by Robert Johnson, a legendary blues musician who supposedly sold his soul to the Devil. Lightning Bot eventually comes to realize that the song doesn't exist... So he writes it himself, once he is finally able to realize the secrets of the blues. But his adventure becomes less about the song, and more about saving Willie's soul from his contract with the Devil. Lightning Boy must defeat the heavy metal musician Jack Butler (Steve Vai) in an epic guitar duel.

1. "The Rocker"
My favorite non-Star Wars movie of all time. Rainn Wilson plays Robert "Fish" Fishman. Fish was kicked out of the '80s metal band, Vesuvius in exchange for them leaving him in the dust while they rise to fortune and fame. 20 years later, Fish has an altercation with a fellow employee at a shitty job and gets fired. He moves in with his sister and begins playing with his nephew's band, A.D.D. Fish is forced out of the band when they are asked to open for Vesuvius for their induction into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. Fish refuses to do it, but singer/guitarist Curtis Powell (Teddy Geiger) agrees to this anyway. They're able to work things out with the help of Amelia (Emma Stone) and Matt (Josh Gad) and Fish ends up facing his old best friends who end up blowing their show anyway. Pretty kickass, friggin' hilarious. Watch it, if you haven't already.
